Laurels is a series of oil on clear gessoed canvas and oil on linen paintings which were inspired by the after image from Alain Resnais' L'Annee Derniere a Marienbad (1961) - in this film both time and memory are completely uprooted - the baroque ornamentation becomes a recurring and anchoring motif. "...masonry so ornate and delicate that it seemed to be dreaming."* |
