Celestial Castle: a communication device
Celestial Castle is a morphing interplanetary device exploring organic development and communication. It is inspired by Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky who suggested a fanciful "Celestial Castle" in geosynchronous Earth orbit attached to a tower on the ground - this collaborative project is about the wonder of transport, communication and space travel.

In 1998 NASA researchers researchers have examined the idea of creating such a device which would be in essence a space elevator - where NASA may be using...”Carbon nanotubes (that) have a strength in tension similar to diamond, " AEF will be using readymade and found materials to create a home-spun version that mirrors the wonder of progress. This project is a vision of the future and is inspired by communication and collaboration between two artists from two nations paralleling the international orbital scientific space programs. This collaborative project between American visual artist Les Joynes and Belgian visual artist Tom Bogaert researches communication and imagination paralleling the the development of the international space station and the concept of the celestial castle - a space elevator of the future.

These works combine the plastic foam lunar landscape and exploding star sculptures of Joynes with the readymade and panamarenkoesque cage-constructions by Bogaert.
